With strong leads, sizzling chemistry, and unforgettable endings, Jill Ramsower's fast-paced, twisty novels continue to win over readers as standout BookTok favorites.

We talked with the author about why she first started to share her stories with the world, how BookTok has shaped her success, and how she stays energized with new ideas.

You are now a prolific romance writer with a worldwide audience, but how did you first decide to share your stories with the world?

Looking back, I’d say I chose to publish because I had nothing to lose. I am an attorney by training, but I never enjoyed the work. Reading was my favorite escape. After writing my first book, I figured I might as well see if anyone else liked my stories as much as I did such that I could leave my legal job behind. I ended up quitting my day job well before I was making money as an author because I’d found my passion. A few years later all my hard work has paid off!

What made you choose indie publishing, and how has that decision shaped your success?

I’d always heard agonizing stories about authors in search of a traditional publishing deal spending years getting rejections from agents. While the probability of repeated rejections was daunting, it was my inherent impatience that made my decision for me. I wrote my first book at age 40 and didn’t feel like I had a decade to sit around and wait for someone to give my books a chance. I believed in my writing and decided to invest in myself, and I’m so glad I did!

"I wrote my first book at age 40 and didn’t feel like I had a decade to sit around and wait for someone to give my books a chance."

You have built a huge following on social media, particularly on TikTok. What do you love about connecting with readers through social media platforms, and how has BookTok shaped your success?

Social media was instrumental in spreading the word about my books, but BookTok is where I felt the most community support in the process. I adore the uplifting, celebratory nature of the book community on TikTok. In particular, I look forward to reading and responding to comments on my posts because 99% are positive in nature, which cannot be said for other platforms. The supportive, compassionate environment on BookTok makes involvement a genuinely enjoyable part of my job. While I’m not a huge fan of social media in general, BookTok is the exception. Whenever I’m having a rough day, there’s no more certain pick-me-up than touching base with my incredible BookTok friends!

My readers are exceptional in every way—their generosity of praise over my work, their compassion and understanding when it comes to my writing schedule, and their voracious enthusiasm about the world of characters I’ve built are just some of the ways my readers bring me joy every single day. I can tell that my readers genuinely appreciate the effort I put into crafting each book, and that makes every second of the sometimes grueling endeavor worthwhile.

How does it feel to see your books take off and achieve such massive success?

Oddly enough, I try not to think about the success of my books because it can be overwhelming. I’ve struggled with panic attacks since I was a teen and have found the pressure of expectations can be triggering. What I prefer to focus on is the incredible feeling of providing for my family by doing the job that I love. I get to keep my own schedule, work in my pajamas, and still get to treat my family to the occasional travel excursion—for me, that is the epitome of fulfillment.

With so many bestselling titles written and published, what keeps you energized with new ideas?

The world of characters I’ve created are family to me, so spending time with them feels like coming home. It might be more difficult if I was writing pure standalones as that would require me to start from scratch with every book like a tiny seed sprouting in a jungle. My books are more like a single redwood, each seemingly separate, but beneath the surface, all part of a greater organism. Characters have backstories and family interactions that shape their journey long before they have a starring role in a book, which creates a wealth of anticipation for me and my readers. I even find myself tempted to jump ahead to future books because I get so excited about the adventures I see developing for upcoming couples.

What can you tell us about your newest book, the next installation in The Moretti Men Series, Death’s Favor?

The hero in Death’s Favor was first introduced in Craving Chaos, the final book of my Byrne Brothers series. We’ve seen Tommy as a teen struggling with issues of neurodivergence, but now he’s a grown man who has spent years in Sicily honing the lethal skills of an assassin. My inspiration for him came from a mix of the movies The Professional and The Accountant. If you’re familiar with those movies at all, you might see the similarities. Tommy found his niche in life and settled into a solitary lifestyle that seemed to suit him, which made him the perfect candidate for a grumpy/sunshine, forced proximity masterpiece!  Danika is a free-flowing artistic soul on the run from her Russian father. When she accidentally breaks into Tommy’s home, she finds herself a prisoner to him and his compulsions. My readers are going to devour every minute of the quirky banter and combustible tension between Tommy and his little thief, and I can’t wait!

What should new readers expect to find in your ever-growing list of hits?

People are creatures of habit. We like what we like, and we want more of what we like because we like it. It’s important to me to give my readers more of what they love. They read my books for a reason, and I plan to reward them with more possessive alphas, confident yet vulnerable heroines, sizzling slow burn tension, and plot lines that keep them guessing. For now, that means more spin-off series branching into other family units in my mafia world, and possibly, one day, exploring a next-generation series of books spotlighting our favorite characters’ grown children.
